Cornwall Cricket on Facebook and Twitter

You can follow Redruth CC and Cornwall Cricket on Facebook at Redruth Cricket and on Twitter at @redruthcc

Message from Michael Weeks, Media Officer for Cornwall Cricket:

“Almost eleven years ago the Cornwall Cricket website went online and in more recent times communications between the League and clubs have been transferred to email and all registrations are now also successfully done via the ECB play-cricket network.

Moving on we are now dragging ourselves into the 21st century by using social networking. Since the turn of the year I’ve set up a Facebook fans page and Twitter account that enables Cornwall Cricket to have instant and interactive communications. We are now looking for as many as possible of the local cricket community to follow us with direct and instant information, news, scores, photos  etc being available straight to your computers, laptops, smartphones and tablets”.

Facebook
If you are a member, and apparently around half the country is, search for us at ‘Cornwall Cricket Board’ and ‘Like’ the page to receive regular updates to your newsfeed from myself, Joe Skinner (CDM), Nigel Sanders, Tim Marrion (Board Directors) & Cricket Centre Manager Mark Mitchell. For example over the last week I posted photo galleries of the England Women’s press conference at Truro and opening of Penzance’s new pavilion which were immediately circulated to followers within hours of the events.

The  page has already ‘Liked’ the Facebook fan pages of the following local clubs: Cornwall Women & Girls, Constantine, Ladock, Ludgvan, Menheniot Looe, Mullion, Penzance and Troon. I’m also aware of the Redruth and St Austell club pages but as they have been set up as an individual ‘Friends page’ rather than an organisation ‘Fans page’  I cannot (as an organisation) ‘Like’ them  it appears (even though I do!)  Any other clubs who have set up fans pages, or do so in the future,  please ‘Like’ the Cornwall Cricket Board Facebook page and I will reciprocate to help with your widen your publicity as the link will appear on our site.

Twitter
We have so far this year gained 115 followers @CornwallCricket including the following ten local clubs, who all have their own official accounts: Beacon, Boconnoc, Calstock, Menheniot Looe, Mt Ambrose, Pencarrow, Redruth, St Blazey, St Neot and  Troon. All seem to be following each other as well it is pleasing to note sharing news and information. I’m following all the Cornish Club sites I’m aware of and will ‘retweet’ important and relevant information to spread publicity.

Twitter Accounts are easy and free to set up on computer or a mobile device. You can simply then follow any number of media outlets, sporting organisations, clubs, individuals, celebrities etc. For anyone you opt to follow you will receive their ‘Tweets’ to your home page providing instant news and views as it happens with the option to interact.

A ‘Tweet’ is a short message of 140 characters or less and can include photos, videos and internet links - though you can just ‘follow’ others if you wish.

You can view Cornwall Cricket’s Facebook and Twitter pages direct from links on the Cornwall Cricket website homepage. We are following over 150 already on Twitter to give an idea of what’s out there and make ourselves visible. A warning however, it can become addictive as the breaking news constantly comes in! In addition to messages going to your own followers they can then be ‘retweeted’ to a new set of followers. An example in the week was our tweet with a  link to the website League AGM report which was retweeted by South West Sports News, The Western Morning News and The St Austell Voice Sports Editor directly to their  2,500 respective followers within five minutes!

Club Websites
Though we are committed to the use of the ECB play-cricket website network for fixtures and results a number of clubs are also running independent club sites which tend to be more ‘user friendly’ for other club information. An example is the Pitchero network which are based on a template that includes one advert per page. In return they are free to set up and run and I gather easy to operate if any club is thinking of expanding their presence on the net. Details can be found at http://www.pitchero.com/club-website/

The Calstock. Camborne and Menheniot Looe clubs are all happy to pass on their site addresses (below) for those who are interested. If clubs do set up a site let me know so I can publicise.
